    Description
    Authentic Science Research 2 is designed to allow students to utilize the practices they learned in ASR 1 to conduct a long-term independent research investigation.
    • Seek out and find a mentor in the community (i.e. scientist, professor, etc.) to support student work on their research project
    • Communicate claims, methods, designs, and findings as a research paper and/or as a scientific poster
    • Defend arguments and revise work based on peer evaluations and class discussions
    • Submit research to various scientific competitions (i.e., science symposia, science fairs, and other science forums)

ASR21Research Review
Students will apply what they learned in ASR 1 by compiling their own literature review for a specific topic of interest. Students will continue to develop skills for critically reading and evaluating scientific texts and presentations. They will use these practices to ask their own questions for investigations. They will continue
to critique arguments as well as construct their own arguments with scientific literature as one source of evidence.
ASR22Scientific Investigations
Students will apply the science and engineering practices as they begin to investigate their own questions and experience the experimental design process for their own independent research. They will continue to develop proficiency in the practices of science as they engage in authentic research.
ASR23Scientific Community Interactions
Students will explore the variety of science fields through research, literature review, Mentor collaboration, and local science opportunities. In ASR 2, students will form a partnership with a mentor who guides their authentic research and provides valuable feedback throughout the experimental or design process. Students will seek out and participate in science and STEM-related opportunities in the community.
