    Description
    Psychology is the scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of individuals. In this course, students will learn about and work with the theories, research methods and practices used to observe, measure and explain behavior. Students will build an understanding of key topics in psychology including intelligence, personality theories, and psychological disorders, and the scientific methods used to investigate human behavior. Students will learn how to apply this knowledge to the benefit of their own lives and our society.

Details
SSPSY1Perspectives and Research Methods
This unit focuses on experimentation in the social sciences and explains how to design and critically evaluate experiments. The unit also addresses the various forms of psychological research.
SSPSY2Personality
In this unit students will analyze the various theories and methods used to explain individual differences in personality.
SSPSY3Biological Basis of Behavior
This unit focuses on how specific brain structures operate, how the body sends its messages through neurons and neurotransmitters in the brain and through the glands of the endocrine system and how a “genetic predisposition” can give us a push in one behavioral direction or another.
SSPSY4Learning
This unit is about classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and observational learning.
SSPSY5Psychological Disorders
This unit focuses on several different categories of psychological disorders, ranging from mood disorders to anxiety disorders to schizophrenia. This unit explores how to define “abnormal” behavior.
SSPSY6Memory
This unit focuses on the information processing model of memory, a model based on stages.
SSPSY7States of Consciousness
The focus in this unit is on states of consciousness, including sleep and dreams. This unit will also address, hypnosis, meditation and altered state of consciousness.
