    Description
    Contemporary Issues is designed to provide students an opportunity to understand and analyze contemporary local, national and international issues in order to become more engaged and informed citizens. Students will gain an understanding of the origins and causes of these issues. Students will critique past and current attempts to resolve them, and propose and debate alternative solutions. Students will also examine how the media and social networks influence our understanding of the world by analyzing a variety of primary and secondary resources. The contemporary issues and events examined will include national and international conflicts, economics, the environment, human rights, world health, and related national and international policies.

This unit focuses on the impact of economic factors on contemporary issues around the world. Students will understand the impact of government policies on local, national and international economies, and the effects of globalization.
SSCU3Local, National, and International Environmental Issues
This unit focuses on how the environment is impacted on a local, national and international level, including human - environmental interactions.
SSCU4Conflicts Around the World
This unit focuses on conflicts in the world today and how these conflicts influence people, groups, and institutions around the world.
SSCU5Life in the US and the World Today
This unit focuses on the impact US and world events have on the daily lives of individuals today, including topics of human rights, and the role of individuals, groups and institutions in addressing issues in the world today.
