    Description
Science Fiction Literature is an elective course intended to be taken in addition to a core English course. If taken to fulfill the twelfth grade Language Arts credit, this course must be paired with Senior British and World Literature, Senior Composition, or Senior Reader Writer. Science Fiction is a Language Arts class designed for students with a strong interest in examining common science fiction themes and the evolution of the genre.  The course will introduce students to the origins and themes of science fiction and the development of the genre over the years.  Readings will include both classic science fiction authors and contemporary writers.  Writing will include essays, personal journals, and critical analysis.  Students will consider each text in its historical context and speculate on how the text deals with historical trends, scientific advances, and how these issues relate to society.

Note: This curriculum was written prior to the 2014-2015 school year. It is scheduled to be rewritten following the Rockwood Curriculum Schedule.
