    Description
    Journalism Writing and Reporting is a course where students will learn the basic principles of journalism law and ethics as well as Associated Press style and apply the concepts consistently in their publications.  This course is designed to prepare students with the specialized writing skills required for a newspaper or yearbook staff.  Journalism Writing and Reporting is a prerequisite for students who are interested in the writing aspects of News Production, Yearbook Production, or Radio Production.  
     
    Learner Outcomes:
    • Understand, explain, and practice the principles and ethics of journalism.
    • Gather information and conduct interviews using a variety of mediums.
    • Write articles using a variety of journalistic styles for authentic audiences.
    • Analyze different media outlets.  

    Note: This curriculum was written prior to the 2014-2015 school year. It is scheduled to be rewritten following the Rockwood Curriculum Schedule.

Details
1Journalistic Practices Principles of Journalism
This unit focuses on learning legal precedent and ethical standards and how those affect student First Amendment rights.
2Writing: Story Development
This unit focuses on the process of gathering information after determining story ideas for publication and presenting that information in the appropriate storytelling format.
3Writing Traits
This unit is focused on grammatical structures and conventions specific to journalistic writing. 
4Management Organization
This unit focuses on responsibilities and how the a publications staff functions on a daily, weekly, monthly and semester basis.
