    Description
    German 2 is an elective course for students who completed German 1. German 2 is centered on thematic units in which students are exposed to German culture, language and grammar through a variety of activities. Students will be exposed to a variety of new tenses and constructions in this class that will help them become more skilled readers, writers, speakers and listeners.
    • Read, listen and watch a variety of German texts, audio selections, and programs about selected topics related to modern communication and social media, mental and physical health, travel, and the German-speaking world.
    • Initiate, participate in, and sustain conversations on a variety of studied topics.
    • Present information about studied topics in writing or in speaking.
    • Research and study selected topics related to modern communication and social media, mental and physical health, travel, and the German-speaking world.
    • Develop an understanding of how cultural perspectives influence cultural practices and cultural products.
    • Develop habits and strategies to be a successful language learner.

HSGR201Modern Communication (Keeping in Touch)
In this unit, students will explore how people stay in touch and interact with others using various forms of technology in the target language and culture. They will learn digital etiquette and responsible use of technology as a global citizen.
HSGR202Sound Body, Sound Mind - Happy and Healthy
In this unit, students will learn what it means to maintain a well-balanced life (diet, illness and exercise) across cultures. They will discuss and describe ways to cope with stress, investigate what makes them and their peers in target language cultures happy, the role of exercise in a health regimen, and cultural approaches to wellness.
HSGR203Tourism
In this unit, students will explore how travel can enrich one's life. Students will practice skills necessary to interact in a culturally appropriate way with others during travel experiences. In addition, students will develop an understanding and appreciate for the culture and language by studying travel and customs.
HSGR204Book Club
In this unit, students will be introduced to fictional literature from the target culture. They will analyze texts, discuss themes, and summarize meaning in the target language. They will begin to develop the ability to read and comprehend authentic language rather than translating. Through the use of authentic sources, students will be exposed to cultural practices and perspectives that provide insight into the target culture.

In this unit, students will explore the target culture's regional celebrations, traditions, and foods to develop an understanding of the connections between its geography and history.
