    Description
    The Eighth Grade Language Arts block will continue to develop reading, writing, information literacy and listening and speaking skills.  Students will use reading strategies to comprehend increasingly more complex material.  Students will use the writing process in order to create effective paragraphs and multi-paragraph pieces.  Emphasis will be placed on the Six Traits of Quality Writing.  Vocabulary instruction and word awareness will be embedded in the reading and writing processes.  Students will further develop media literary skills, use of the research process and their ability to evaluate both the relevance and reliability of information gathered.  Speaking and discussion will be further promoted as will listening for information.  Students will be expected to apply these skills in preparation for future years of study.
