National Council for the Social Studies

National Council for the Social Studies logo

Representatives from a group of state education agencies and from leading organizations in social studies collaborated to create a framework to provide states with voluntary guidance for upgrading existing social studies standards. This framework supports states in creating standards that prepare young people for effective and successful participation in college, careers and civic life.

As a result of their education in the Rockwood Social Studies Program, our students will use critical thinking skills and understand the rights and responsibilities of active citizens. We believe it is important for students to identify the democratic values and principles embodied in the Constitution and fundamental charters of freedom.
