Dear Rockwood Summit High Students,
Selecting courses for the 2019-2020 school year is a critical part of determining the path you will follow as you work toward graduation. Long-range planning is important. Please use this guide as a resource as you consider everything from the college-selection process to career opportunities.
At Rockwood Summit, we encourage our students to take challenging courses. Research shows that the number-one predictor of success on the ACT is the level of core courses that students take in high school. We understand that every student is unique; however, we strongly encourage each of you to consider the highest level of core courses that you can complete successfully with the help of our staff. We also encourage our students to take rigorous schedules all the way through senior year. Seniors who continue to take challenging courses throughout their senior year come back after graduation and tell us how well-prepared they were for college. Helping our students reach their post-high school goals is very important to us; however, it’s equally important to us that our students are successful in their chosen path.
In addition to preparing you for higher education, our courses can help you to choose a career path that best fits your personal strengths and interests. This guide is intended to provide information about the many programs that we offer. If you have a potential interest in a career, we encourage you to take elective courses in that field. Once you find success in a subject area, we encourage you to explore more courses in that area to deepen your experience.
Talk with your parents and guidance counselor about your future plans and the best courses to help you meet your goals. Your teachers are also great resources to help you choose courses that are right for you.
Ensuring that you are ready for college and your chosen career is our focus at Rockwood Summit High School. As always, if you have questions or concerns, we are here to assist. We look forward to working together to ensure that you have a successful and enjoyable high school experience.
